I’ve just advanced to round two of the Anton Rubinstein piano competition.
It’s at the Hochschüle für Musik Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden, Germany.
Semifinal music to be recreated:
- Liszt: Première Année de Pèlerinage – 1. Chapelle de Guillaume Tell
- Beethoven: “The Hunt” Sonata No. 18 in E-flat Major, Op. 31 No. 3
- Carl Tausig: Concert Étude No. 2 in A-flat Major, Op. 1b
- Liszt: Première Année de Pèlerinage – 5. Orage
- Rubinstein: 6 Soirées à Saint-Petersburg, Op.44 – 1. Romance in E-flat Major
- Rachmaninoff: Piano Sonata No. 2 in B-flat Minor, Op. 36 (Revised Version)
What I played in my first round:
- Bach: The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book I – Prelude & Fugue XV in G Major
- Mozart: Fantasy No. 2 in C Minor, K. 396
- Liszt: Trois Études de Concert – 3. Un Sospiro (D-flat Major)
- Rachmaninoff: Etude-Tableaux, Op. 39: 1. Allegro agitato (C Minor)
Too bad only the orchestra rounds will be recorded! Not enough manpower, it seems. “NOT ENOUGH PYLONS.”
